Resolutions and Policy Papers
Delegates will debate many issues over the course of the four and half days at convention. Everything’s contained in three major policy papers and a book of nearly 100 resolutions. The papers address policies regarding good jobs, public services, and rights. Each of those papers has a designated time on the agenda. Resolutions come up, usually a few at a time, throughout the convention.
Once a paper or resolution has the support of a majority of the delegation, it is OFL policy. It’s different if the delegates want to change the constitution though. That requires the support of two-thirds of voting delegates.
Policy positions of the delegates will be contained in an action plan to be debated on Thursday morning, Nov. 26.
Delegates are representatives elected to represent their unions. The direction of the OFL for the two years between conventions is based on their decisions. Here are resolutions adopted at the 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007 conventions.
